Ludhiana: With the
Municipal Corporation elections still away, the political parties have started getting their acts together for rejuvenating the workers ahead of the upcoming polls. The senior leaders of various parties have started contacing party workers to boost their morale and soon plan to begin holding ward-wise meetings.
In fact, several party workers are also linking the scheduled May 14 visit of
BJP national president J P Nadda to the preparations, as he would be holding a meeting with the local leaders here. The Opposition parties, meanwhile, are hitting out at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders while saying that people have been disillusioned with the failure of the state government in fulfilling the promises while AAP leaders are claiming the party would win in the local polls too.
Bharatiya Janata Party district president Pushpinder Singhal said, "Our senior leadership remains active most of the time and meetings are held on a daily basis so that workers remain active. We have to win the Sangrur bypoll, then MC elections and we have already started preparation for Parliament elections due in 2024." On being asked about BJP leaders joining other parties, he said, "There is no such thing as BJP leaders are quite happy here, rather other party leaders are showing interest in joining BJP." He said voters are losing faith in the AAP and the
Congress has already proved a failure so the BJP has bright prospects in the MC polls.
Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) district president Harbhajan Singh Dang said, "Though there is time for MC elections as the ruling AAP is busy in
assembly elections of Himachal, but we have started our preparations. From next week onwards, we are going to meet ward wise workers so that we could identify who is more active in wards." He said they will bring changes in the results of MC elections for sure because AAP has started losing base among voters.
Congress district president Ashwani Sharma said, "We are ready for elections anytime but still we have time till the end of this year or beginning of next year. The elections are due in March 2023 but the government can prepone it up to six months to avail benefit of the wave created at the time of Assembly elections, but here some people have already started criticising the government." He said the MC election results will prove a “eye opener” for the AAP and other Opposition parties.
However, Aam Aadmi Party councillor from Central constituency Rakesh Prashar refuted all claims and said, “It is for the voters to decide who will win and who will loose. The Opposition parties were claiming similar things at the time of assembly elections but what happened is in front of everyone.”
He said let the time come, and people vote picture will become clear.
