  • Rapper Gigi Lamayne went on a 'the national lunch date' with social media influencer Mr Smeg.
  • "I didn't know what to expect because he is such a gentleman online, and it translated throughout the date", she said.
  • Gigi's debut album called Set in Stone will release on 20 May.

Rapper Gigi Lamayne whose real name is Genesis Manney went against the grain and accepted one of Mzansi's public lunch dates this past weekend.

In an unconventional way to meet someone, the Fufa rapper and Michael Bucwa, popularly known as Mr Smeg, went on 'the national lunch date'.

The date took place at DJ Shimza's establishment called The Hang Awt 1682 in Tembisa.

The rapper and reality star is the second celebrity to go on a date with Mr Smeg. The Queen actor Pearl Thusi went on one earlier this year.

Dressed in a pink blazer and long leather boots, Gigi described her experience as positive and flattering.

"The best part was getting ready for the date. It almost felt like I was getting ready for a music video," said Gigi.

Speaking to Channel24 shortly after the highly publicised date, she said she had learnt a lot from the Twitter gentleman.

"It was amazing. I think we don't have a lot of positive media, especially on platforms like Twitter, so seeing that play out in such a positive way, with people being so positive, was just the best part. I felt very flattered.

"I think my favourite part was getting the biggest bouquet I've ever gotten. I'm not sure who told him that I like roses in my bouquet, but he made sure he did that," she said.

Gigi added: "I didn't know what to expect because he is such a gentleman online, and it translated throughout the date."

The couple caused a stir on Twitter after they shared what seemed to be a secret kiss.

"There was some chemistry. I think the most important thing is the conversations were great.

"It's not every day that you meet someone, and you are already talking about your goals. He is just genuinely a nice person. Somebody who is really drama free. For what it's worth, he taught me a lot. He taught me what to entertain and what not to entertain, but most of all, he reminded me of how beautiful and talented I am. In the world we live in, it is easy to forget that," she said.

The award-winning rapper revealed that although she made time to go on this date, she is focusing on her first love, music.

Her debut album, Set in Stone, will be released on Friday, 20 May.

"For the album, I was looking for something timeless. I wanted it to feel like a story. The focus of this album is on the messaging. It is to solidify that I am the best female rapper in Africa. To solidify that people have been yearning for new music. The focus was for me to challenge myself and create songs that I could listen to and that I could be proud of. There is a song for everyone," she said.
