PANAJI: Parts of Goa received light to moderate
rainfall late evening on Wednesday as a ripple effect of
Cyclone Asani in the Bay of Bengal.
The India meteorological department (
IMD) earlier forecast scattered light rainfall activity over the state for May 11.
“The trough was passing close to the eastern coast of the country, and its movement has caused wind patterns to change over Goa. The lower levels of the atmosphere were getting westerly moisture incursion, whereas the middle troposphere was getting moisture from the eye of the cyclone as well, leading to the light rainfall activity over Goa,” IMD scientist, Rahul M said.
There were no instances of lightning or significant windspeeds that could have damaging effects that were reported.
The system is slowly moving away, as a result of which, the
windspeed is expected to weaken, IMD said.
“The light rainfall activity will continue for two more days owing to the ongoing phenomenon,” Rahul said.
The maximum temperature recorded on Wednesday was 32.6C, thus showing a fall from the past 24 hours. On Tuesday, IMD had recorded maximum temperature of 33.2C. There is no drastic fall in maximum temperatures expected beyond this, IMD said.
