Punjab pushes for direct international flights from Amritsar

CHANDIGARH: Punjab minister for NRI affairs Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Wednesday called upon minister of state for external affairs V Muraleedharan at South Block in Delhi to take up issues related with Indian diaspora living abroad.
In the meeting, Dhaliwal demanded direct flights from Amritsar airport to Canada, US, Australia and England. He also demanded that Chandigarh and Amritsar airports should be made international airports with all requisite facilities. Dhaliwal also demanded that CCTV cameras at international airports focusing on immigration counters, so that NRIs don’t face any difficulties.
He said people were facing difficulties in getting travel visas and attestation of papers, and emphasized that there should be a 24/7 helpline for the Punjabi community in cases of emergency. tnn
