Gurgaon: Haryana State Commission for Women chairperson
Renu Bhatia visited Gurgaon on Wednesday for the first time after assuming her position in January this year to take stock of the harassment cases registered by women in the city and the conduct of police officers concerned.
During her visit, she enquired about fifteen complaints by women about domestic violence, dowry, mental harassment, etc. “Five cases have been pending, and both parties involved in the cases now have fifteen days to reach a mutual agreement. Few cases were of extra-marital relationships and double marriages. Meanwhile, three cases got settled by the parties involved. In two cases, we called both parties to Chandigarh for a personal hearing on May 19. Few cases will go to court as these are outside our jurisdiction,”
Bhatia told the media on Wednesday.
A total of five new complaints also got registered on the spot, which will be in the pipeline and taken up at the next hearing.
Bhatia also conducted a meeting with senior police officers and officials at the women police station and took stock of the harassment cases in Gurgaon. During the meeting, she directed the officers to ensure justice for victims at the earliest. “If a woman comes to the police station with a complaint, listen to her, in all seriousness, and take necessary action until the complainant is satisfied,” Bhatia said.
