Girraj Singh Malinga averted a spell in Dholpur jail after he tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday.
Police produced Dholpur’s Bari legislator before the court and he was subsequently sent to judicial custody. Consequently, arrangements were being made to send Malinga to jail before his Covid-19 report came positive.
Noteworthy, On March 29, a case was registered against the ruling party MLA and some others for assaulting two engineers of the Electricity Department at Bari office.
Dholpur SP Narayan Lal Togas said the MLA will be kept in the Covid care centre of the hospital.
A senior police official in Jaipur told TOI there is a procedural code which stipulates a Covid test before the accused could be shifted to jail.
Malinga had surrendered before the Jaipur police commissioner on Wednesday. The city police then ferried him to Dholpur and handed him over to the CID-CB’s investigation officer.
“He did not show any symptoms initially,” said an official.
Jaipur police commissioner Anand Kumar Srivastava on Wednesday said Malinga had met the chief minister Ashok Gehlot.
The CM asked Malinga to cooperate in the investigation, following which the MLA surrendered. “We have sent the MLA with police to Dholpur,” he said.
