Vadodara: A wedding procession triggered a riot in
Kalol town in Panchmahal district on Monday night. Mobs resorted to stone-pelting and ransacked vehicles as well as street vendors’ carts during the melee.
The incident occurred when the procession was returning after going around in parts of the town accompanied by loud music played on a DJ system. An altercation allegedly took place near the Gadhedi Falia regarding the noise which soon escalated into rioting.
Kalol police sub-inspector M K Malaviya said that the participants in the wedding procession were also from different communities. “They stay in adjoining localities and participate in each other’s events,” the oficer said.
Malaviya added that the trouble had started when two persons from different communities who were dancing in the procession entered into an altercation with each other. “The petty matter escalated when some persons who were not part of the procession fuelled the temper from outside,” he said.
Policemen from Kalol and the top brass of Panchmahal police rushed to the town in wake of the incident. The rioting was brought under control and offences were registered by both sides regarding the rioting at the Kalol police station.
A couple of persons including the groom’s father receives minor injuries in the incident. Cops picked up around 10 persons in connection with the incident.
