Ranchi: The Class VIII board examinations of the
Jharkhand Academic Council concluded on Tuesday. Students had to appear for six papers in two shifts on a single day. The questions were in multiple choice and objective mode.
Sharing their experiences, Class VIII students
Komal Kumari and
Savita Kumari of Rajkiya Madhya Vidyalaya at Kanta Toli in Ranchi said, “We appeared for Hindi, Social
Science, Mathematics, English, Science, and Sanskrit papers. Though we could not attend the online classes for an entire year when we were in Class VII due to our parents’ financial condition, we are grateful to our teacher for dedicating extra time to help us bridge the gap in learning. Hence, we did not stress over the exams.”
Pokhraj Sinha, a teacher at the Uttkramit Uccha Vidyalaya, Kanke, said, “The examinations should not have been held in one single day. Six hours is a long time for the students to remain focussed. Most of the students faced problems in 2020 when classes were shifted to the online mode of education during Covid-19. We took extra offline classes when restrictions were lifted by the government to make up for the lost time.”
Rajeev Kumar, Ashwin Dungdung, Baha Supriyo Kachchap, and Harshit Toppo of St. John’s High School, Purulia Road, were a cheerful lot as they headed home after the exam. “The question papers were easy,” they quipped.
However, Rohit Toppo of St. John’s High School at Purulia Road said, “The Mathematics paper was tough.”
Meanwhile, Sinha added, “The JAC did not provide the schools with the model question papers as it did during the previous years. Though 50% of the syllabus was reduced for this semester, questions from the next semester were also asked.”
