The attack on the youth near the Shivajinagar police colony reflects the worrisome law and order situation in the city, besides the assailants’ audacity to do whatever they want. The city police should take strict action against them. The authorities should also focus on visible policing to reduce crimes on roads and boost the confidence of citizens.

“Final year commerce student Harshad Shantaram Shete, who stays in the police colony, was riding on a motorcycle, along with his two friends, on JM Road when his vehicle brushed another bike. The biker and his pillion rider picked up an altercation with Shete and later followed him up to the police colony. They again started an altercation there and called their accomplices. The duo’s aides came on seven bikes to the spot to assault the victim,” said inspector Vikram Goud from the Shivajinagar police.
He said, “Shete was admitted to a hospital with serious wounds on his right hand. He told the police that he and his friends were on way to Pune railway station for having ice cream. The police have registered a case for an offence under Section 326 (causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon) of the Indian Penal Code and rioting.”
A police team led by sub-inspector Bhairavnath Shelke arrested the suspects after their questioning revealed their involvement in the crime.
