AHMEDABAD: A 46-year-old man, employed with a leading pharmaceutical company, jumped to his death from the balcony of his 14th floor flat in Chharodi area on Monday. According to sources in Sabarmati police station, where the case was registered, Amarjeet Singh, the victim, “had not been feeling well” for the past few days. What triggered the extreme step, however, is not yet known.
Inspector R S Thakar of Sabarmati police said that the deceased drew a monthly salary of at least Rs 1 lakh and lived in his own flat in Malabar County near Nirma University.
“Around 8.30 am on Monday, Singh jumped from the 14th floor balcony of his flat and hit the ground with a loud thud. Hearing the sound, a security guard and other residents ran towards the block and found Singh lying in a pool of blood. They called up the ambulance and the police control room,” said a cop at Sabarmati police station.
The police official said that the attending doctor in the ambulance declared Singh dead and his body was sent for post-mortem. Thakar said, “Based on preliminary questioning of his family and relatives, Singh found his life to be worthless and yearned for mental peace. However, we cannot say if he was reeling under depression or any other mental health issue because according to his family, he had not been consulting any doctor.”
A police officer said that since Singh’s family was in trauma due to his sudden death, they were not extensively questioned about the suicide. Sabarmati police registered a case of accidental death and began investigation.
