Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday approved a master plan worth Rs 1,500 crore for the development of Odisha University of Technology and Research (OUTR).
The university, earlier known as College of Engineering and Technology (CET), will be developed as a Centre of Excellence on a par with premier tech institutes like IIT, NIT and IIM in three years. Reviewing the infrastructure, management and academics of the university, the chief minister gave emphasis on quality education and research and asked officials to develop the institute as a leading hub of technical education in the country.
The development works will be carried out in phased manners in all sectors, starting from infrastructure to human resources. In the first year alone, Rs 1,000 crore will be spent on the varsity’s infrastructure development. The master plan has envisaged to upgrade the institute with current student strength of 4,600 in the lines with IIT so that it can accommodate around 10,000 students in the next five years.
The development works will include use of new-age technology and launch of new courses and research facilities so that the university can promote human resource development.
