According to police sources, angry relatives of the bride thrashed the relatives of the groom with bamboo sticks.
BIHARSHARIF: A 25-year-old man was beaten to death for using a spray during ‘jaimala’ (exchange of garlands) ceremony in a wedding in Nalanda district late Monday night. The deceased, Shiv Kumar, was a native of Faridpur under Islamur police station area. He had gone to Akaid village under Ben police station area for the marriage of his cousin Bhushan Kumar.
According to police sources, angry relatives of the bride thrashed the relatives of the groom with bamboo sticks allegedly after they sprayed some colours on them during the ‘jaimala’ ceremony. Shiv, son of Gopal Prasad, suffered critical head injuries. He was taken to a private clinic where he succumbed to his injuries.
The groom, son of Jagdish Prasad of village Bana Bigha under Parwalpur police station area, called off the marriage minutes before tying knots with the daughter of Kishore Prasad.
Ben police station SHO Ravindra Kumar said, “During the ‘jaimala’ ceremony on Monday night, the relatives and friends of the groom used a colour spray in the air as a mark of celebration, which was objected to by the bride side. The situation soon turned ugly and youths from the bride side beat the groom side. Shiv was brutally assaulted by them. He sustained grievous injuries and fell unconscious.”
“We have sent the body for postmortem and efforts are on to identify the accused who were involved in the brutal assault,” he added.
