KOLKATA: The state government is planning to extend the 200-acre Bengal Silicon Valley land at New Town and add another 50 acres to give space to more investors.
Inaugurating the NKDA-run community centre II at New Town Action Area II on Tuesday, state urban development and municipal affairs minister Firhad Hakim said the state was working towards bringing in more companies to develop the IT sector in the state.
“Several big IT companies like Wipro and Infosys are coming to Bengal. Many companies will be a part of the Bengal Silicon Valley. The Silicon Valley hub is now 200 acres. There is a 50-acre plot adjacent to the present Silicon Valley land. There is a plan to add that land for the Silicon Valley to extend further. If the plan gets approved by the state cabinet, then the land will become 250 acres wide. The chief minister wants to have IT development in such a way that the youth here don’t have to go outside the state any more for work,” Hakim said.
