MYSURU: The Government Model Higher Primary School in Ashokapuram, one of the iconic schools in the city, will introduce English medium from Class 1 in the academic year 2022-23.
The teachers at the school, which was started 120 years ago in 1902, are making elaborate arrangements to attract more students by campaigning about the facilities available in the school along with education in English medium from the Class 1.
“This year, English medium will be introduced from the Class 1. Five students have enrolled for Class 1 already,” explained school head master
Kshetrapala KN.
The school is adopted by
Chamarajanagar MP V Srinivasa Prasad, an alumnus of the century old school.
According to the school head master Kshetrapala, locals are informed about the introduction of English medium from the Class 1 in several ways. “We are making announcements using mike. We are covering one road everyday with public announcements and the handbills, flexes, etc,” he explained.
Presently, 45 students are studying in the school between Class 1 and 7.
“We are convincing the parents to send their kids to this school as we have all the facilities including education in English medium. We are reaching out to parents street wise,” explained Kshetrapala.
Meanwhile, in
Mysuru district, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) sought permission to start English medium from Class 1 in eight schools. “We sent a proposal in this regard to the state office,” said Mysuru DDPI
Ramachandra Raje Urs .
Currently, 12 Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) and nine other schools have English as the medium of instruction from Class 1, he said.
According to the authorities, response for the English medium government schools is high as parents prefer them over private schools.
