  • Suspects have been arrested.

Three people were killed in different locations in Mahikeng in the North West - the incidents happened on Sunday and Monday.

On Sunday, a 17-year-old was raped and murdered in Lonely Park near Mmalephoi.

When police arrived at the RDP house, they found the body of Amogelang Moadibo on the floor, said North West police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh.

Later that day, 21-year-old Thato Morake, was arrested.

"He was charged with murder and rape," she said.

Morake appeared in the Molopo Magistrate's Court in Mmabatho on Tuesday. He was remanded in custody, said Myburgh.

Morake was due to return to court on 17 May.

Asked for further information, Myburgh told News24 she could not provide more details at this point, but noted in the statement that more arrests were imminent.

In a separate incident, police arrested a 37-year-old man and were looking into a mob justice incident linked to the murder of Vuyisile Maphanzi.

The incident happened on Sunday.

Police said they responded to a scene in Signal Hill Village, Mahikeng where Maphanzi, 34, was allegedly stabbed with a sharp object.

Maphanzi was rushed to a local hospital, where he was declared dead.

Myburgh said investigations led to the arrest of Godfrey Tshipi, 37, who also appeared in the Molopo Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

"He appeared on a charge of murder and was remanded in custody," she said.

His case was rolled over to 17 May for his next court appearance.

On Monday, a mob allegedly grabbed a 26-year-old man in Signal Hill Village and accused him of Maphanzi's murder.

According to Myburgh, the man was "severely assaulted and ultimately set alight".

"When Emergency Medical and Rescue Services (EMRS) arrived on the scene, the man was declared dead," said Myburg.

Police are investigating a case of murder.
