VARANASI: A 25-year-old woman patient was allegedly raped by a
sweeper when she had gone to the washroom of the
divisional hospital of
Mirzapur district on night of May 7. An FIR has been lodged while the accused is absconding.
The woman who hails from a village under the limits of
Lalganj police station area of Mirzapur district, told her husband about the sexual when she was admitted to another hospital again on Monday after her health complications recurred. Her husband reported the matter to the police on Tuesday morning.
Senior officials rushed to the hospital after hearing about the incident. ASP City, Mirzapur,
Sanjay Kumar Verma said, "An FIR has been lodged under section 376 of
IPC. Three teams have been formed to arrest the accused sweeper."
During initial police investigation, it came to light that the woman had gone to the divisional hospital of Mirzapur on May 7 for the treatment of stomach ache and some other complications. She was admitted to the hospital, where she went to the wash-room between 9 pm and 10 pm.
Verma said that her husband alleged that the sweeper present near the washroom raped the woman when she was changing her clothes inside. On the morning of May 8, she was referred to the Government Women’s Hospital. After a brief stay at the GWH, she left for her home.
However, when she complained about more complications on Monday, she was rushed to GWH again. Following this, she informed her husband about the incident. Soon, inspector, Kotwali, Arvind Mishra, reached the hospital and recorded the statement of the woman and alerted senior officials.
After this, DM Mirzapur Pravin Lakshkar, DIG/SP Ajay Kumar, ADM SP Shukla, CO Sadar Shailendra Tripathi and other officers also reached the hospital.Verma said that the accused was appointed as a sweeper in the hospital on contract. “He will be nabbed very soon,” he added.
