JODHPUR: Four children drowned while bathing in a stone quarry filled with rain water in
Jodhpur on Monday. The four children belonged to two families of migrants from Pakistan and were staying in Kaliberi area of Jodhpur. They had been out to play on Monday afternoon.
"When they did not return by evening, family members began searching for them. As there was some wedding function in the locality, the parents assumed that they might have gone for it and would return by night," said the district magistrate.
When the families failed to find the children, they lodged a missing complaint with the police. But before the police could act, they received information about a child's body floating in the abandoned stone quarry. Soorsagar SHO Gautam Dotasara said that when the body was taken out, it was identified as that of missing Poonam Chand (8), son of Ramesh Bheel. A team of divers was called in immediately as it was assumed that the three other children may have also drowned. The three bodies were also fished by the divers from the quarry.
"They have been identified as Yuvraj (5), Teekam (12) and Gopal (8)," said Dotasara, adding that the quarry was about 50ft deep. The bodies had got stuck deep in the water. It took the divers about three hours to find them.
CM expresses condolencesPoonam Chand and Yuvraj, sons of Ramesh Bheel, as well as the other two, sons of Govind Bheel, were brothers. Both the families had come from Pakistan to settle in India. While Ramesh's family had come in 1998 and had obtained Indian citizenship, the family of Govind Bheel had come in 2015 and was yet to get citizenship.
