Rajasthan: Tension grips Bharatpur as 2 groups clash, 15 arrested

JAIPUR: Tension prevailed at Budh Ki Haat locality under Mathura Gate police station area of Bharatpur when two groups of different communities had a violent confrontation over an old dispute late Monday.
Both the groups pelted stones and threw soft drink bottles at each other in which at least six persons sustained minor injuries. Police intervened on time and arrested 15 persons. They lodged an FIR against 31 accused from both the confronting groups.
According to the police, one of the groups was celebrating the release of five members from jail who were booked for a similar confrontation that had taken place in September 2013. “One group started abusing another group. Soon, both the groups were at loggerheads and started pelting stones at each other. Both the groups also threw soft drink bottles on each other in which at least six persons sustained minor injuries,” said a senior police officer of Bharatpur police.
Shyam Singh, SP, Bharatpur, said, “We have registered an FIR in this connection and so far arrested 15 persons for violence and disturbing peace. We have named 31 persons in the case. The situation is peaceful and under control. We also held a meeting with the confronting group and warned them not to repeat violence.”
Locals met the police officers and urged that CCTVs should be installed in the lanes of the locality.
It may be recalled that on September 2013 some people of Sikh community had organised a ‘langar’ (mass feast) in which some unidentified persons had pelted stones. It had triggered a violent confrontation between the two communities and a case was registered against six members of the community.
On Monday evening, these six persons were released by the court. While celebrating, they indulged in violence again. Further probe is going on.
