Rajkot: An officer of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) was attacked and his office was vandalized allegedly by a transporter and nine others in Somnath town. The complainant Rajeev Malhotra, project manager, NHAI, told police that the accused Jagmal Vala never paid the toll tax and threatened its employees when they asked for it. Malhotra had escalated the issue to the government and NHAI. When Vala got to know about it, he went to Malhotra’s office and vandalized it. He and others even thrashed Malhotra. Vala had also taken along three local scribes with him to videograph the assault. All, including the three scribes, were booked for rioting and criminal conspiracy by the Prabhas Patan police.
₹ 14.5L stolen from factory
Rajkot: Five members of the notorious chaddi baniyan dhari (CBD) gang broke into a factory in Umiya GIDC in Rajkot and stole Rs 14.59 lakh cash kept in the drawer. Piyush Ranipa, who owns a plastic pipes making unit in Ribda, had forgotten to take home the cash that was received as an advance payment on Sunday. When he went to the office the next day, he saw that the cash was stolen. CCTV footage showed two men stealing the cash and three others standing guard outside the unit, said police. The burglars had entered the factory by breaking the grill behind the factory.
