PUNE: Nigdi police in Maharahtra's Pune on Monday launched a search for four men, who attacked the manager of a Mumbai-based bank, his father and robbed a gold chain worth Rs 50,000 of his brother-in-law.
The robbery happened near Pawale Chowk in Nigdi, late on Sunday night, when the 36-year-old complainant was taking his car along the road to stop as his son wanted to drink water.
Assistant inspector Amol Korde of the Nigdi police told TOI that the complainant Vikrant Birajdar of Charkop in Kandivli had come to Hadapsar in Pune on Sunday for a family function.
"On his way home in the night, when Birajdar reached near Pawale bridge at Nigdi around 10.30pm, his son wanted to drink water," Korde said.
He said that while taking the car along the road, an abandoned parcel containing some food item, came under the wheels of Birajdar's car.
"Due to the pressure, the parcel burst and the food spread on a scooter parked near it," Korde said.
Korde said that according to the complainant, one person standing near the scooter asked him to get down.
"As soon as Birajdar got out of the car, the person began abusing him and also started beating him," Korde said.
Seeing that Birajdar's father Harishchandra Birjadar and brother-in-law Pratik Deshpande too came out of the car for Birjadar's help.
"The person started abusing and beating them too," Korde said.
He said that in the meantime, the person's three more accomplices reached there and started beating the trio.
"One of them even tried to snatch gold chain of Birajdar and his father. But, they resisted him and removed their chains and kept inside their pockets. But, another person snatched Deshpande's gold chain and fled. Birajdar told the police that he found the gold pendant of Deshpande's gold chain, which had fallen, while the men were beating him," Korde said.
He said that the police have registered a case under Section 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) of the Indian Penal Code.
"Our probe is on," Korde said.
