Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader V D Satheesan has urged governor Arif Mohammad Khan to abstain from giving assent to the Kerala Cooperative Societies (Second Amendment) Ordinance 2022. In a letter to the governor, Satheesan has said the proposed ordinance amends Section 28 of the principal act to give nominated members of the Anand pattern milk cooperative society voting rights in the election of the managing committee of a regional cooperative milk producers union. Under current legislation, voting rights are only granted to elected members. The proposed amendment will provide voting rights to nominated members and hence, undermines fundamental foundations of a free and fair election process, said Satheesan. As nomination is a state government prerogative, allowing nominated members to vote will sabotage the entire process.
