Mangaluru: The I PU college admissions, especially in aided and government colleges across the state, are likely to be impacted, since the II PU examination evaluation will be held at the same time.
According to PU college managements, the SSLC final exam result is likely to be out any time after May 10, and the II PU exam ends on May 18. The evaluation of II PU exam papers starts in the third week of May. “A majority of the staff in government or aided PU colleges will go for exam evaluation work, and there will be no one to handle admissions. The private colleges have enough manpower, but not government or aided colleges. The evaluation work is done by teachers in government colleges, starting from admissions to clerical work,” said Vittala A, principal of Kittel Memorial PU College.
Another senior PU lecturer said that the exam evaluation is likely to start after May 23. “It will take a minimum two weeks for completion. During this time, no staff is available in government and aided PU college campuses, as they are busy with exam evaluation. The staff will return to colleges, only after the second week of June. Adding to it, the government has not released guidelines for the new academic year. There is no information on whether the fee structure will be revised or not. The government PU college fee is revised every three years, and it is due this academic year. There is no clarity on the summer vacations of PU college staff,” said a lecturer.
When TOI contacted C D Jayanna, DDPU, Dakshina Kannada, he agreed that there will be no staff available during I PU admissions. “We will make alternative arrangements, so that the admission process is not hampered,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Dakshina Kannada PU department is planning to hold supplementary examinations for I PU students from June 6. “Since there is a large number of absent and failed candidates, we have asked principals of every college to call all the candidates, and convince them and their parents to appear for the examination,” said Jayanna.
