Silchar: Amid simmering tension triggered by tea workers over the government’s decision to set up a greenfield airport in Doloo tea garden of Cachar district, security forces on Monday held a flag march in the garden.
Police personnel and CRPF jawans reached the tea garden, about 24km from Silchar on Monday afternoon, and started the flag march.
While deputy inspector general of police (southern range) Kankan Jyoti Saikia and Cachar superintendent of police Ramandeep Kaur were present, the security personnel toured the tea garden sections for about two-and-a-half hours. The flag march concluded around 5.45pm.
“Some ‘external forces’ are trying to create hindrances in the path of the airport project’s materialisation by ‘brainwashing’ the tea workers,” DIG (southern range) Kankan Jyoti Saikia told media.
He said the tea workers are being influenced through “misinformation” by “external forces” regarding the airport project. “The workers should communicate directly with the administration and co-operate with the administration instead of paying attention to rumours,” he said.
