150 city flights re-slotted as runway shut 6hours for monsoon work, fares zoom

Airlines rescheduled over 150 afternoon flights as the Mumbai airport remained shut for six hours on Tuesday to carry out pre-monsoon maintenance and repair works on its runways. Airfares for flights scheduled in the evening and the next day were on the higher side. “The maintenance work on the runway work started at 11 am and after careful assessment and evaluation, both the runways 14/32 and 09/27 are operational for all flight movements from 5 pm,” said a Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL) spokesperson.

Contractor gets notice for 34% desilting in island city

The BMC on Monday issued a notice for underperforming to the desilting contractor responsible for undertaking cleaning works of major nullahs in the island city. The major nullahs are in three civic wards: G South (Worli, Lower Parel), G North (Dharavi, Dadar) and F North (Sion, Matunga). The May 9 notice, sent by the deputy municipal commissioner (infrastructure), said that work conditions mentioned that the contractor was required to complete 50% desilting before the monsoon. The BMC chief visited Mithi River on April 14 for an inspection and directed contractors to double manpower and machinery to speed up work. This was conveyed to the contractor concerned, with a May 15 deadline.

DMER’s circular mentions casual approach of hosps

The fresh DMER circular related to organ transplants was issued on May 9. It says a hospital’s competent authority should first scrupulously examine facts and each document and certify it to be the true copy of originals produced before it and record its prima facie satisfaction that there is no commercial transaction between recipient and donor. The state had last week withdrawn its April 11 circular after it was challenged before Bombay high court as arbitrarily putting the onus of verification, which under the organ transplant Act is on the state level authorisation committee, on hospitals.

Maharashtra reported 223 fresh ca ses on Tuesday, including 122 from Mumbai. The city had 628 active cases at the beginning of the month which has steadily increased to 844 as of Tuesday. In fact, the city has been clocking an average of 100 new cases daily for the past eight days, but daily admissions to Covid hospitals have been in the range of two to five. Currently, only 25 of the cit y’s 25,249 Covid-19 beds are occupied.
