The gang members had reached Coimbatore on Friday to visit an inmate of the central prison. When the drunk men made too much noise, houseowner S Poornima, 41, asked them not to create ruckus at night. On Sunday morning,
Poornima found a synthetic water tank installed at the rented house damaged. When she sought an explanation, the gang threatened her,” a police officer said.
“The gang barged into Poornima’s house around 3.30pm and attacked her, her husband Shanmugasundaram and her 15-year-old daughter with sickles, and damaged the windows. When neighbours rushed to the family’s help, the gang members came out of the house and damaged 10 motorcycles parked on the road. They also attacked G Krishnan, 20, a passerby,” the officer told TOI.
When residents tried to catch them, the gang members hid in a coconut field. Residents surrounded the field, caught the miscreants and thrashed them, before handing them over to police.
“Maharaja is facing three cases, including assault and attempt to murder cases. Sivasubbu is facing three cases for rioting, murder and theft. Hariharan is facing three cases for assault and dacoity,” the officer added.
