KOLKATA: A minor from Beliaghata, who was kidnapped by a Bangladeshi national, was rescued on Saturday after a week’s effort by police. The accused,
Debu Kumar Mohanto, was nabbed on Sunday. He had entrapped the girl by faking a friendship with her, said cops.
Mohanto had kidnapped the minor from her aunt around 9pm on May 2. A case was recorded with cops.
“Analysing the technical data and corroborating the same with human source information, we learnt the accused had taken the girl to
Gopal Nagar near Ranaghat. A raid was conducted, but we came to know the accused had fled with the girl. All the police stations concerned and other authorities were briefed on the matter. The Bangladesh high commission was also made aware of this as the accused is a citizen of Bangladesh,” said DC ESD Priyotosh
Roy.
“It was then found that the duo was in South Dinajpur’s Gangarampur. Another raid led to the rescue of the girl on May 7. But the accused fled. Cops continued to search for the accused and he was finally caught in Bongaon, near the Petrapole border on Sunday. We have learnt the girl was kidnapped for the purpose of transporting her to Bangladesh for exploitation,” said Roy.
