TRICHY: Trichy district collector S Sivarasu on Tuesday inspected three viable sites for the new bus stand proposed for Thuraiyur town in the district. Officials said that one of the sites will be chosen within the year to receive an administrative sanction.
Three locations namely Perumal Malai footsteps on Thuraiyur-Perambalur road, Thuraiyur-Attur road and the proposed Thuraiyur-Attur bypass road were inspected by the officials.
While the existing bus stand sprawls for around 3 acres and is visited by 225 buses doing multiple trips every day, the new bus terminus is likely to come up in about 5 acres area. As the local body has no major land parcels within the town, the district administration is considering the government land banks in the suburbs.
Welcoming the move, a section of residents demanded the district administration increase the area of the proposed bus terminus to seven acres.
