Coimbatore: The city corporation will take up weekly cleaning activity in the bus terminals, after councillors, during an inspection, found that bus terminals were not maintained properly.
A corporation health official said
Ukkadam Bus Terminal was cleaned on Monday, while
Gandhipuram Town Bus Terminal was cleared of tobacco stains, posters and garbage last week. “We will carry out cleaning activity in bus terminals every week to improve hygiene. Similarly, supervision will be done to prevent people from littering and spitting on the premises.”
Officials also pasted stickers at several places in
Gandhipuram Bus Terminal warning passengers against littering or spitting. Passengers were remainded that they were being monitored through
CCTV cameras and warned that action would be taken against people who were involved in unhygienic practices.
Central zone chairperson Meena Loganathan, who inspected the Gandhipuram terminal recently along with councillors, said there was no periodical maintenance works carried out at the terminal. As a result, cleanliness had gone for a toss. “I had asked the corporation officials to change this situation. Since I pass through the terminal to reach my office every day, I told officials that I would inspect it frequently,” she said.
The civic body will take up cleaning activity in other bus terminals including
Mofussil Bus Terminal and Thiruvalluvar Bus Terminal at Gandhipuram.
