ULHASNAGAR: Two brothers, who are road contractors, have been booked for assaulting a clerk posted with the accounts department of Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) for not forwarding their file to senior officials for payment of their work in Ulhasnagar.
A case has been registered against Sanjay Chandnani and Ajay Chandnani of Jai Bharat Construction Company at the Central police station on the complaint of the clerk Sandeep Bidlan.
The police said complainant Bidlan is posted as a clerk with the accounts department at UMC headquarters.
On Monday afternoon, he was on duty when Sanjay and Ajay, both brothers who are associated with Jai Bharat Construction Company, arrived at his table.
The police sources said that since a bill of their Jai Bharat Construction Company was pending in the UMC they had submitted bill which Bidlan had the authority to forward after checking facts.
However, when Bidlan said he is yet to check the file both brothers got angry on him and started abusing him.
However, when Bidlan said he will complain against them to chief account officer the duo get angry and they manhandled Bidlan. Looking at the incident, security guard posted at UMC rescued Bidlan.
Acting on the complaint of Bidlan, the Central police have booked both contractor brothers and have begun searching for them to make the arrest.
Meanwhile, Amit Chandnani (elder cousin brother of both contractors) said that Bidlan was demanding 10% bribe of the bill amount for forwarding the bill. "About 10 days ago we had complained to UMC commissioner about the same and today when my brothers visited to enquire about the status of the file, Bidlan misbehaved with my brothers and slapped them. It has been captured in CCTV footage which police has recovered."
Meanwhile, looking at CCTV evidence the Central police late Monday evening filed cross complaint against Bidlan.
S M Kad, senior police inspector of Central police station said, "We have taken cross complaint of both parties and first we will probe the matter and and then further action will be taken."
