Wife, sister of sharpshooter arrested from Karelibaug

Vadodara: The Sayajigunj police on Sunday arrested the wife and sister of notorious criminal Anil alias Anthony Gangwani who fled from Chhota Udepur police custody in the city on Friday afternoon. The cops said that the two women too was planning to escape from the city to avoid getting arrested.
Suman Gangwani, wife of Anthony and sister Jayashri Bhojwani were nabbed from Karelibaug when they were on their way to the railway station. Cops said they are questioning Suman and Jayashri to find Anthony’s whereabouts. Several teams of policemen have already been sent across the state to track down the histry-sheeter.
Chhota Udepur police led by PSI J P Damor had brought him to the SSG Hospital for treatment, but on Anthony’s insistence to meet his daughter had taken him to Hotel Pooja in a private car in which Anthony’s driver Sadiq Makarani too was present.
Anthony was allowed to meet his wife and sister in the hotel room while Damor waited in an adjacent room. At about 3pm when Damor went to check on Anthony in the room and realised that he had escaped. Hours after his escape, Damor approached the Sayajigunj police station to file the complaint.
The cops are questioning Damor to ascertain if he was involved in the incident. Investigations are also on to find out how Anthony escaped from the hotel. Hotel manager Sunil Parmar and room boy Manish Macwan are also being questioned about their involvement.
Anthony, who is one of the accused in the murder of gangster Mukesh Harjani who was killed in 2016, had escaped from the police custody in SSG Hospital in 2020 too but he was nabbed within hours.
