VMC removes encroachments

Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) conducted a major encroachment removal drive in the old city area around Mangalbazaar. Elected functionaries of the civic body remained present during the drive along with VMC officials.
The drive was conducted because elected functionaries including mayor Keyur Rokadiya were getting complaints regarding the encroachments. The drive was taken up as a surprise at the instance of Rokadiya. Encroachments were removed from areas around Laheripura Gate, Padmavati Shopping Centre, Nyay Mandir and Mangalbazaar. Five truckloads and two concrete mixers were filled with the material removed from the areas. The shopkeepers were also told to ensure that their goods were kept inside the shops and not hanging outside in a way that obstructed pedestrians or traffic.
