Covid-19 4th Wave in India News Updates: India on Sunday saw a slight drop in daily Covid cases. However, the number of deaths doubled up in the last 24 hours with the most being reported from Kerala. There has been an uptick in the active case count as well, the health bulletin says. In China, situation remains grim as the mass testing becomes norm in Beijing. Meanwhile, the WHO estimates on the real death toll in the pandemic has sparked massive debate. Coronavirus Omicron Live Tracker: Over 190.33 crore doses of coronavirus vaccine administered in India so far

The cumulative COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country crossed 190.33 crore on Sunday, the Union Health Ministry said. More than 11 lakh (11,93,312) vaccine doses have been administered till 7 pm on Sunday. The daily vaccination tally is expected to increase with the compilation of the final reports for the day by late night. A total of 20,524 precaution doses of COVID-19 vaccine were administered in those aged 18-59 years till 7 pm on Sunday, taking the total precaution doses given in this age-group to 10,93,599 so far, according to the Health Ministry data. Coronavirus Omicron Live Tracker: MP logs 28 new COVID-19 cases, no death; active tally now 190

The COVID-19 tally in Madhya Pradesh reached 10,41,689 on Sunday after the detection of 28 cases, while the death toll saw no addition and stood at 10,735, a health official said. The positivity rate was 0.3 per cent, while the recovery count increased by 35 to touch 10,30,764, leaving the state with 190 active cases, the official informed. With 7,421 samples examined during the day, the number of tests in MP went up to 2,91,40,814, he added. A government release said 11,80,48,224 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered so far in the state, including 4,326 on Sunday. (PTI)

Coronavirus Omicron Live Tracker: 24 students test COVID-19 positive at NID in 3 days; boys’ hostel declared micro containment zone

A total of 24 students of the city-based National Institute of Design (NID) have tested positive for COVID-19 in three days, with 16 cases being reported on Sunday alone, officials said. With the detection of these cases, the academic activities of the institute have been suspended, they said. The authorities have declared the new boys' hostel and another block of the premier design institute as micro containment zones in an effort to contain the spread of the virus, an official of the health department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) said. “In the last three days, 24 students of the NID have tested positive for COVID-19. They have been kept under isolation in the hostel, which has been declared a micro containment zone,” the official said. (PTI)

Coronavirus Omicron Live Tracker: 23 more cases in Punjab

Punjab reported 23 fresh Covid cases on Sunday that took the infection tally to 7,59,905, according to a medical bulletin. No covid-related death was reported in the past 24-hours and the death toll stands at 17,751, it said. Of the new cases, Mohali registered 10 followed by seven in Ludhiana and two each in Fazilka and Patiala, it said. There were 284 active cases in the state, it said. (PTI)

Delhi reported 1,422 fresh COVID-19 cases and zero fatality due to the viral disease on Sunday, while the positivity rate was recorded at 5.34 per cent, according to data shared by the city health department. A total of 26,647 Covid tests were conducted in the national capital on Saturday, it showed. With the new cases, Delhi's COVID-19 infection tally rises to 18,94,254, while the death toll stands at 26,179, according to the bulletin. The city reported 1,407 Covid cases with a positivity rate of 4.72 per cent and two deaths on Saturday. (PTI)

Coronavirus Omicron Live Tracker: Telangana posts 32 new COVID-19 cases

Telangana on Sunday saw 32 fresh coronavirus cases, taking the aggregate to 7,92,327. However, no fresh fatality due to the infection was reported in the last 24 hours and the toll continued to be 4,111, a medical bulletin said. Hyderabad recorded the highest number of cases at 21. A total of 40 people recuperated from the infection today taking the cumulative number of recoveries till date to 7,87,835. The active cases stood at 381, it said. (PTI)

Coronavirus Omicron Live Tracker: Maharashtra reports 224 new cases, one death; active count now 1,304

Maharashtra on Sunday reported 224 new coronavirus positive cases, taking the state's infection tally to 78,79,278, while one death raised the toll to 1,47,847, the health department said. A total of 196 patients recuperated during the day, taking the cumulative recovery count to 77,30,127. There are 1,304 active cases in the state now. On Sunday, 24,349 tests were done, pushing the state's overall test count to 8,03,79,421. The COVID-19 recovery rate of the state is 98.11 per cent, while the fatality rate is 1.87 per cent. (PTI)

Coronavirus Omicron Live Tracker: 64 school students test COVID-positive in Odisha’s Raygada

Sixty-four students living in two hostels in Odisha's Raygada district were found to be COVID-positive as the state reported 71 new cases on Sunday, officials said. The state has been recording around cases a day for the last one month, they said. With this, the state's COVID-19 tally increased to 12,88,202. The death toll stood at 9,126 with no new fatality. There are 160 active cases in the state at present, while 12,78,863 people have recovered from the infection. Forty-four residents of Anwesha Hostel at Kotlaguda were found to be COVID-positive, hostel matron Namita Samal said. (PTI)

Coronavirus Omicron Live Tracker: Nashik reports 1 new COVID-19 case, no death

The count of COVID-19 cases in Nashik district of Maharashtra rose by one to reach 4,76,061 on Sunday, health officials said. The virus did not claim any life during the day, which kept the fatality count in the district unchanged at 8,899. A total of 4,67,156 patients have recovered so far across Nashik. At present six patients are undergoing treatment in the district, they said. (PTI)

Coronavirus Omicron Live Tracker: Israel to end mandatory COVID-19 tests for arrivals at Tel Aviv airport

Israel said on Sunday it was ending mandatory COVID-19 testing for arrivals at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport, but foreigners would still have to test negative overseas before boarding a flight to the country. The health ministry said testing at Ben Gurion would no longer be required as of May 20. It cited a drop in daily infection numbers, from more than 6,000 to fewer than 2,000 over the past month, for the decision. As of Tuesday, foreigners can opt to take a rapid antigen test within 24 hours of departure for Israel, rather than a PCR test, within 72 hours of travel, currently required, the ministry said in a statement. Since March 1, Israel has not required its citizens to test overseas for COVID-19 before boarding a flight home. (Reuters)

Coronavirus Omicron Live Tracker: One new case in Ladakh

Ladakh reported one fresh Covid case on Sunday that took the infection tally to 28,248, officials said. The number of active cases now stands at two, they said. Presently, there is no case in the Kargil district which has recorded a total of 5,280 COVID-19 cases since the outbreak of the pandemic against 22,968 in Leh, officials said. No COVId-related fatality was recorded on Saturday and the death toll remained unchanged at 228 – 168 in Leh and 60 in Kargil, they said. – PTI

A day after reporting a fresh COVID-19 case after a fortnight, another new infection was detected in Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Sunday, taking the Union territory's caseload to 10,037, a health bulletin said. There are now two active cases in the archipelago, while 9,906 people have been cured of the disease, and 129 patients have succumbed to the infection to date. Mumbai on Saturday added 172 COVID-19 cases to its tally, which reached 10,60,606. while the death toll remained unchanged at 19,563, a civic official said. So far, 10,40,259 persons have been discharged post recovery, including 94 during the day, leaving the metropolis with an active caseload of 784, he said. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation data showed the recovery rate was 98 per cent, the caseload doubling time was 7,316 days and the overall growth rate of cases between April 30 and May 6 stood at 0.009 per cent. Gujarat reported 27 COVID-19 cases and one death on Saturday, increasing its tally to 12,24,470 and toll to 10,944, said a state health department official. The recovery count increased by 19 to touch 12,13,401, leaving the state with an active caseload of 125, he said. The lone death took place in Kheda district, while the cases comprised 19 in Ahmedabad, three in Vadodara and one each in Banaskantha, Gandhinagar, Kheda, Mehsana and Rajkot, the official said. Coronavirus Omicron Live Tracker: New COVID-19 infections continue to rise in TN with 89 more cases

Chennai and neighbouring Chengalpet accounted for the majority of new COVID-19 infections in Tamil Nadu on Saturday as new cases rose to 89, including two returnees from Malaysia and Singapore, respectively, aggregating to 34,54,306, the health department said. The death toll in the state stood at 38,025 as no fatality was recorded in the last 24 hours, a medical bulletin said. Among those tested positive include 44 men and 45 women, it said. (PTI)

Coronavirus Omicron Live Tracker: Karnataka reports 171 fresh infections, zero deaths

Karnataka on Saturday reported 171 fresh COVID-19 cases taking the total infections to 39,48,635 while there were zero fatalities, the health department said. In its daily COVID bulletin, the department said there were 1,945 active cases in the state while 121 people were discharged. The state on Saturday conducted 15,647 tests including 11,520 RT-PCR tests. The majority of cases came from Bengaluru Urban district which reported 155 infections on Saturday. The city has 1,841 active cases. There were 10 coronavirus infections in Mysuru, two in Dakshina Kannada district and one each in Dharwad, Udupi, Bengaluru Rural and Bidar. (PTI)
