Greater Noida: Two people died while two others were injured in separate road accidents in Greater Noida, officials said on Wednesday.
In the first, a 34-year-old man died after he allegedly rammed his truck into another vehicle on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway in Greater Noida in the early hours of Wednesday. Police suspect the driver, Sunil Singh, fell asleep at the wheel.
“The accident occurred around 2am on the high-speed corridor in the Dankaur area. Prima facie, it seemed that Singh fell asleep while driving and that led to the fatal crash,” said Radha Raman Singh, in-charge of the Dankaur police station.
“Singh’s truck was badly damaged in the accident. We are scanning the CCTV cameras installed in the area to identify the other vehicle. Singh was from Chhibramau in Kannauj district. We have informed his family,” the police officer said.
In the second accident, a 28-year-old man died after his e-rickshaw was hit by a speeding truck near the LG roundabout on Tuesday morning. The deceased was identified as Nikhil Chaudhary.
“Chaudhary was returning home from work when the accident occurred. The truck driver fled the spot after the accident, leaving the vehicle behind,” a senior officer at Knowledge Park police station said. “The driver, identified as Anuj Pratap, has been booked under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC. Efforts are on to nab him,” he added.
In the third accident, two men, aged around 30, sustained injuries after their bike was hit by a speeding SUV near the ATS roundabout on Wednesday evening. The two-wheeler caught fire in the impact and the victims sustained injuries,” a police officer said. “Efforts are on to track down the SUV driver, who sped away after the accident,” he added.
