The police have launched a hunt to nab the accused.
KANPUR: A 35-year-old woman was injured in an acid attack allegedly by a local hoodlum in Bidhnoo area of Kanpur district on Wednesday. The police have admitted the victim to the Community Health Centre, from where she was later referred to the Ursala hospital. A local goon was harassing the woman after her husband's death. The police have launched a hunt to nab the attacker. The woman, a resident of Tulsiapur, told the police that her husband had died in a road accident in January last year. Since then she lives alone with her minor son and works as a labourer. On Wednesday afternoon, she was going to the factory when a local goon - Ajay Kumar, a resident of Kalyanpur, waylaid her at Taudhakpur road Tulsiapur turn, and molested her. On resisting, he took out a bottle from his pocket and threw acid on her following which she suffered serious burns. Hearing her shrieks, locals rushed to the spot and gave Ajay a chase, but he managed to flee the spot. A police officer told TOI that the woman alleged that Ajay was harassing her for several days. "Action will be taken on the basis of the complaint," he added.
