Bernard Dunne has resigned as High Performance Director of the Irish Athletic Boxing Association (IABA) after failing to resolve a conflict with his employers since the Tokyo Olympics.

The former professional world champion issued a complaint in writing to the IABA last November, alleging his position had been undermined by an unsigned “SWOT Analysis Position Paper”, claimed to have been written after a survey on Irish boxing, that he considered highly damaging to his position.

Dunne (pictured) believed the intent of the letter – for which he was not consulted – was to discredit him in both a personal and professional capacity. In his complaint, he named two IABA Board members he believed had an involvement in the drafting of the letter, which drew some damaging and unsubstantiated conclusions with regard to his position.

Dunne has not returned to his work as HP Director since the Tokyo Games and, after a proposed hearing into his complaint against the two board members was postponed last Wednesday, the Irish Independent understands he decided he’d had enough and has now resigned from the position.

He is the third High Performance Director lost to the IABA since Billy Walsh went to America in 2016.
