Mangaluru: A 14-year-old
Dalit girl was reportedly found hanging in her house on Wednesday. According to a complaint filed at the
Vittal police station limits, the parents of the girl accused
Sahul Hammed aka
Kutta, aged around 30 years, to be responsible for her death. The parents, who are coolies, left home for work in the morning as usual, and when they returned at 11.15 am, they found their daughter hanging.
The parents reportedly told the police, that since the victim was spending too much time on the mobile phone, they checked the phone, and noticed that she was speaking to the accused. He was reportedly in love with her. They tried to convince their daughter to stay away from him, and even warned
Sahul Hameed and his brother, not to get close to their daughter.
However, they alleged that when there was no one at home, Sahul would continue to visit their house, and would pressurise the victim to love him. She allegedly told her parents, that the accused had told her to leave her parents, and come along with him, and that if she failed to do so, she could choose death.
A case has been registered under IPC Section 305 (abetment of suicide committed by child) and section 3 (2)(v), 3(2)(va) of the SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act 2015.
