Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday approved increment in ex gratia being paid to the next of kin of Odia jawans killed during war and fighting extremism to Rs 10 lakh from Rs 5 lakh.
An official statement said the government has started paying the ex gratia since Kargil war for welfare of the families of jawans and officers of armed and paramilitary forces. Though the amount was Rs 1 lakh, it was increased to Rs 2 lakh in 2010 and to Rs 5 lakh in 2012. TNN
