He replaces Mahua Moitra
Panaji: All India Trinamool Congress on Wednesday appointed former Lok Sabha MP Kirti Azad as the party’s Goa unit in-charge with immediate effect.
A statement issued by AITC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee stated that the Trinamool Congress, under the guidance and inspiration of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, appointed Azad as the AITC Goa in-charge.
Azad replaced TMC MP Mahua Moitra, who was in-charge of the Goa unit.
The cricketer-turned-politician had switched over to the TMC from Congress last year. He was earlier a BJP MP from Bihar.
The TMC had contested the Goa legislative assembly elections held earlier this year in alliance with the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party. The MGP won two seats in the elections.
However, the TMC drew a blank. The TMC had inducted senior leaders from the Congress and other parties ahead of the assembly polls.
However, many of these leaders, including Goa TMC president Kiran Kandolkar, quit the party blaming political strategist Prashant Kishor and his organisation I-PAC for the party’s debacle in the polls.
