KOLKATA: Strongly attacking the “politics of division and isolation” in the country, CM Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said it was the people’s right to “live and stay together in harmony”. The battle of her life, she said, would be for “insaan, insaniyat insaaf (people, humanity and justice)” and added that “together, we need to fight against the communal forces that are trying to break the nation”.
“The condition of the country now is not right. The present divide-and-rule policy is incorrect. The politics of isolation is improper. We need to fight against the power which is attempting to break the nation. They are trying to defame your community and destabilize social harmony by creating division between Hindus and Muslims,” Banerjee said following the Eid namaz on Red Road, which was being held after two years. “They are envious of the communal unity in Bengal. We hope to remove them,” she added.
Appealing to the community to have faith in her, the CM said, “Never in my life have I broken trust. I was always taught by my parents to value trust. Keep your trust in me. I have been maligned, abused but I will never bow down before these communal forces. I will keep fighting them. Trust me, when I say I will never let tears in your eyes. I want to see smiles.”
In her 12-minute address, Banerjee repeatedly stressed on the need “to stay together while divisive forces are at work” in the country. “We are Hindustanis and we all have the right to stay together. We want unity and pray for it. Bengal will show the path of peace. I pray for peace. It will not be a jhootha (fake) achhe din, but sachha (real) achhe din,” she said.
