Bokaro: The newborn, who was bitten by rats at Giridh sadar hospital, is out of danger and recovering, Giridih deputy commissioner Naman Priyesh Lakra said on Tuesday.
A day after some hospital staff were suspended, the district administration on Tuesday began a probe on how the rats entered the childcare unit of the hospital. The child was born on Friday and the incident occurred on Monday. The child was shifted to PMCH in Dhanbad for better care.
The DC said, “The baby is out of danger and recovering fast.” He added that he instructed the civil surgeon to ensure that such incident should not occur again.
Civil surgeon S P Mishra took stock of the ward and said ground works for maintenance of the baby unit will begin soon.
The maternity ward where Mamta Devi, mother of the newborn, was admitted has broken windows.
“A hole was found under the door from where rats could have entered. It was fixed with a rubber. Repair works of the AC units were done,” said a staff.
The civil surgeon said. “The incident was very unfortunate. ANM Rekha Kumari has been suspended and transferred to Gawan, 60 km away from the headquarters. GNM Sanju Kumari and Lilavati Soren, appointed by the outsourcing company, have been relieved of their duties. Action has also been initiated against Dr Sundeep Kumar, under whose charge this unit was running. Cleaning staff Anjani Devi has been removed from duty.”
