Thiruvananthapuram: Kollam West police here on Tuesday arrested a 26-year-old man hailing from Maharashtra on charges of duping Rs 3 lakh from a native of Kollam settled in Mumbai, by forging a court order by the district court. The police identified the accused as Arman Sanjay Pawar, a resident of Panvel near Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra.
The police said the accused was caught from his hideout in a quarry located near a forest region in Maharashtra. The case pertained to cheating a woman hailing from Kollam who is currently settled in Mumbai. The accused made acquaintance with her pretending to be an advocate and offered help to secure the ownership of her mother's ancestral property that was caught in a legal dispute.
He received Rs 3 lakh from the complainant as the remuneration for his services rendered. He then gave her a court order issued by Kollam district court which ruled in her favour, granting ownership of the property to her. She realised that the court order was fake only when she approached the registrar office and court to execute the order.
Following this, the woman filed a complaint before the Kollam West police. The police learned that the accused had gone absconding and even discarded his old phone number, making it difficult to track him. However, Kollam city police commissioner T Narayanan sent a special team led by Kollam West sub inspector Shyamkumar K G to Maharashtra for a detailed probe. They were assisted by the city cyber cell. Following the investigation, the team managed to track down the accused.
The arrested person was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.
