Thiruvananthapuram: Police have arrested one person in a case related to moral policing. According to police, a married couple was harassed by a gang of three at Venjaramoodu on Monday night.
On the couple’s complaint police later arrested one of the three accused identified by the police as Mohanan, 52, of Venjaramoodu.
According to the police, the alleged crime took place on Monday night.
The complainants are a married couple of which the wife works as a nurse at Gokulam Medical College, Venjaramoodu. On Monday night the husband had turned up at the hospital to pick up the wife whose shift ended by 8 pm.
As they exited the hospital and covered a short distance, a three-member gang stopped their vehicle and started asking uncomfortable questions. The men disregarded the couple's repeated claims that they were married and went on to verbally abuse them.
The couple's efforts to resist the harassment only made the men more furious; and as a result they ended up assaulting the husband. However, the local residents rushed to the spot hearing the desperate screams of the woman. At this point, the assailants fled from the scene. Following this, the couple approached the local police with a complaint.
Soon, the police tracked down and arrested Mohanan. He is arraigned as the second accused in the case.
A probe is on to arrest the remaining two accused who are identified as Smritin and Subin, police said.
