Mysuru: KPCC general secretary M Lakshmana on Tuesday urged the state government to seize properties attached to former minister Ramesh Jarkiholi in Gokak taluk accusing him of non-payment of dues to sugarcane farmers. He claimed that cooperation minister ST Somashekar was helping the former minister while the cooperative banks have incurred losses. According to him, Somashekar has helped Jarkiholi to get a loan waiver. Speaking to reporters, Lakshmana alleged that Jarkiholi has borrowed loans to the tune of Rs 366 crore from various cooperative banks to set up the sugar factory. The former minister has failed to clear Rs 50 crore dues to sugarcane growers and has defaulted payment of Rs 200 crore tax to the income tax department, he alleged. “Though Karnataka State Cooperative Apex Bank chairman Belli Prakash, who is a BJP MLA, had written to the Belagavi district administration seeking action against the former minister, officials have failed to act,” he claimed.
