PATNA: An engineer was killed by unidentified criminals in his house at Karbala under Phulwarisharif police station area in Patna on late Sunday night. The deceased, identified as Mohammad Zafaruddin (35), had come to Patna from Delhi with his family to celebrate Eid.
Phulwarisharif police station SHO Ikrar Ahmad Khan said the deceased had serious head injuries as the miscreant attacked him with a pressure cooker.
"Looking at the circumstances, it's not a case of crime for resisting loot bid. The police have yet to record the family's statement. The matter is suspicious. Only Zafaruddin, his wife Shahnaaz Parveen and two minor children were at home," he said.
Patna SSP Manavjeet Singh Dhillon told TOI that Zafaruddin worked as an engineer in Delhi and had come to Patna with his family on Sunday. "The first line of investigation indicates that someone known to the family has committed the crime after friendly entry in his house. Nothing was stolen from there. Zafaruddin's wife said that she was fast asleep in other room and saw the dead body in the morning. The way the incident took place is very suspicious. His wife did not inform the police about the incident. She is also not opening up because, we presume, she is in shock. The police are investigating the case," he said.
A police officer said it was unclear when the incident took place. The locals informed the police station around 7am on Monday. Zafaruddin's body was found lying in a pool of blood.
A pressure cooker with bloodstain was found near the body.
