DUMKA: An 18-year-old IIT aspirant allegedly died by suicide by jumping off from an under-construction building after setting himself on fire in Deoghar district on Monday.
The body was found lying on the ground near the under-construction house being built by his father, an employee with the State Bank of India and posted in Godda district.
“We have recovered kerosene oil and a matchbox from the rooftop of the under-construction house which suggests that the deceased poured the oil on his body before jumping off the roof,” Deoghar SP Subhash Singh Jat said. The half-burnt body was sent for post mortem and later handed over to the parents.
Locals said the parents resided in a rented house about half a kilometre away.
The boy was in depression for the past few months for being unable to crack the IIT-JEE, the boy’s father was quoted as saying.
