The city has been reeling under the fourth spell of heatwave since April 27
GURUGRAM: Strong surface winds at a speed of 25 kmph during the day brought the much needed relief from the scorching heat that the city has been experiencing for last few days.
On Sunday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 41.8 degrees Celsius - two notches above the season's normal, while the minimum temperature slightly rose to 27 degrees Celsius-four notches above the normal.
The city has been reeling under the fourth spell of heatwave since April 27. According to the Met department, there will be a fall in temperature by around 4 degrees Celsius during the next 48 hours and no major change will be witnessed thereafter. Strong dust raising surface winds with a speed reaching upto 30-40 kmph is likely to prevail over most parts of Haryana during next two days, the weatherman said.
"There has been circulation formed over Punjab due to which westerly winds have prevailed over Haryana. The strong winds, which are comparatively less warm, has helped the temperature drop on Sunday. Under the influence of western disturbances, there is a probability of strong surface winds, thunder activity and light showers at isolated places in the state during the next 3-4 days. Moreover, there are chances of fairly widespread rainfall over adjoining hilly states such as Uttrakhand, Himachal which will neutralise the heatwave condition over the state," said Manmohan Singh, director of IMD Chandigarh.
According to the IMD's forecast, there will be partly cloudy conditions with dust storm and thunder storm accompanied by gusty winds on Monday. The minimum and maximum temperature is likely to hover around 28 and 43 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Meanwhile, the city's air quality deteriorated but remained in the 'poor' category on Sunday. The overall AQI reading was at 291 as compared to 250 on Saturday. The AQI at Vikas Sadan and Teri Gram was in the poor category with a reading of 296 and 261, respectively. It was at a very poor level at Sector 51, where the AQI was recorded at 337.
