Cops attacked, kin help murder bid accused escape

Ludhiana: A police team was attacked when it went to arrest an accused in a murder bid case in Bajigar Basti of Daad village on Sunday. The kin also helped the accused flee the spot. The cops suffered minor injuries in the incident.
The Sadar police have lodged an FIR against the accused identified as Saka Mohammad of Bajigar Basti, his brother Rashid Mohammad, mother Nazira Mohammad, Rashid’s wife Reshma and their unidentified accomplices.
ASI Ashwani Kumar of Jodhan police station of Ludhiana rural said Saka Mohammad was wanted in a murder bid case of Fabruary 2021 in which he had called the victim to Mansooran on the pretext of selling his Volkswagen Polo car. When the victim turned up there with his friends, the accused attacked them with sharp-edged weapons before escaping.
The ASI said after getting the arrest warrants of the accused from the court on Sunday, the police team had reached Daad to arrest Saka. But his family members and other aides attacked the police team with stones and made the accused escape.
ASI Kulwant Singh, who is investigating the case, said a case under Sections 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapons) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the IPC has been lodged against the accused at Sadar police station.
