CHENNAI: An average 1.5 lakh people travelled daily in metro trains in Chennai in April. This is an increase from the daily average of 81,000 people in January. Nevertheless, it is still only 20% of the 7.75lakh people estimated to travel in metro trains when the 45km phase-1 project was planned a decade ago. According to CMRL’s newly released numbers, 45.4lakh people travelled in April, compared to 45 lakh in March, 32 lakh in February and 25 lakh in January. “In a few months, we expect the daily average to touch three lakh,” an official said.
