NEW DELHI: The Congress in Gujarat may be staring at another high-profile exit from the party ahead of the assembly elections later this year. Disgruntled Gujarat Congress leader Hardik Patel has removed the name of the grand old party from his Twitter bio.
Hardik Patel had recently gone public with his criticism of the state Congress leaders and had even accused them of harassing him so that he left the party. Patel had also claimed that no action had been taken against these leaders despite several complaints to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The Gujarat Congress leader had even praised the ruling BJP for its "decision-making capacity". Patel had then stated that he was "proud to be a Hindu" leading to rumours of his joining the saffron camp. Hardik Patel had attained prominence when he spearheaded the Patidar community's campaign in Gujarat in 2015 seeking reservations under the OBC category. The Gujarat unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has extended an invite to Hardik Patel to join it. “Hardik Patel has come up as a leader on his own. He has expressed displeasure with the Congress leadership. We require leaders like Hardik in AAP Gujarat,” the AAP's state unit leader Gopal Italia had told reporters.
