Mangaluru: An Indian Gaur (male) that had accidentally fallen into a water tank in Kanyana in Puttur range was rescued by the forest department on Monday.
Puttur range forest officer Kiran BM said the Indian Guar had accidentally fallen into the water tank of Bharath Sevashrama at Kanyayana, near the Kalenjemale reserve forest area. It had probably come to the village in search of water. The animal had remained in the tank that was about five feet deep and probably could not come out.
Ashram staff and inmates who noticed the animal informed the department. Forest officials rushed to the spot and carried out a rescue operation by dumping soil on one side of the water tank to create a ramp and facilitate the Gaur to come out of the water. The animal came out of the tank and moved towards the forest, it is learnt.
